Professor Daniel Adjei-Boateng, Dean of the Quality Assurance and Planning Office at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Kumasi, has been elected West Africa Regional Director of the African Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society (WAS-AC).
The World Aquaculture Society, founded in 1969 as the World Mariculture Society, represents more than 3,000 members across over 100 countries.
As its membership expanded globally, the Society established regional chapters in the United States, Japan, Korea, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, and, more recently, Africa to address region-specific aquaculture needs.
An aquaculturist with more than two decades of experience, Prof. Adjei-Boateng’s research and teaching focus on sustainable aquaculture, fish nutrition, environmental management, and the links between aquatic ecosystems and food security.
In outlining his priorities, the newly elected regional director said he aims to promote sustainable aquaculture by engaging young people, students, and farmers through knowledge sharing, practical training, and the application of appropriate technologies.
He also plans to strengthen the participation of francophone countries in the activities of the African Chapter.
